Fly trap
|

There is nothing worse than having an insect infestation in your home and not knowing how to get rid of it. Whether you have a problem with spiders, ants or silverfish, you’ll want to get rid of them as quickly as possible. These pests don’t just bug you, but they can also cause sanitation and health problems. Here are some of the most common household pests along with a simple, budget-friendly solution for getting rid of each of them.

Ants

Ants can quickly become a problem in your home if there are any food sources available to them. These sources can be something as simple as crumbs from a cookie. It’s essential to clean up any food debris as quickly as possible. If you have an ant problem in your home, you can use salt to get rid of them. Check around your home to find any places where they might be getting inside. Sprinkle salt around those areas to keep the ants from gaining access to your house.

Flies

The best way to keep flies away is to prevent them from getting into your home in the first place. Be sure to keep your garbage containers covered and your kitchen countertops clean. Ensure there are no spaces around your windows and doors where flies can get into your home. If you still have a fly problem, place a bowl of warm water and liquid detergent on your kitchen counter. The mixture will attract the flies into the bowl, and they won’t be able to escape.

Ladybugs

While individual ladybugs may be cute, an infestation of them is not. You can quickly get rid of these pests with your vacuum. Suction them into your vacuum and then quickly let them go outside. Once they’re gone, check to see if you have any spaces in windows and doors or holes in your screens that may need repairs.

Moths

You generally find grain moths in your kitchen cupboards. If you have grain moths in your cabinets, you want to do a thorough cleaning to get rid of them. Throw out any opened packages that they could have contaminated. Place any unopened boxes in the refrigerator. Use cleaning products to clean all of your cupboards, inside and out thoroughly. Once your cupboards and cabinets are clean, you can return the boxes to their proper places. Moths do not like sage, so consider placing small sachets of sage in your cupboards to prevent any future infestations.

Silverfish

These little bugs generally like to live in wet spots. Keep your kitchen and bathroom areas as dry as possible. Check under your cupboards for any wet spots and clean them up as soon as possible. Silverfish are repelled by rosemary so consider adding a rosemary plant to your décor.

Spiders

While spiders may be great for eating up other insects in your home, an infestation of them can cause real problems. Some spiders can even be deadly. To get rid of these pests, dust, sweep and vacuum all of the corner areas within your home. Make a solution of vinegar and water to spray in any problem areas to keep the spiders away for good.
